Rynyalla, In The House of The Jade King

A moment of musing

A moment to reflect on the decision made… Towards Riftt. Perhaps towards answers. Certainly towards treason. Is it treason? If Minerva is.. Was.. the crown prince, and would do better by the people, is this treason to move towards putting someone else in charge who wouldn’t do this to the people of the Empire? Well, who we think wouldn’t.

This became awfully messy awfully fast, and I have a feeling it’s going to get worse before it gets any better. At this point, success will be out-running Maegriss. Success would be keeping the Inquisitors alive. Success would be finding out what in Trake’s name the Emperor is doing, why the God and Goddess of death are angry with him, and what the Inquisitors could do for the sake of the Empire.

For Rozelyn, serving in the army has always meant serving the Empire, and the Emperor was the will of the Empire made flesh. But what if that wasn’t so? What if they could serve the will of the Empire, but not the will of the Emperor? Could they contradict one another? Do they?
